2022 Fall Release
“You must go on adventures to find out where you belong.” - Sue Fitzmaurice
The magic of the harvest season is bigger than wine. People from all over the world leave their lives behind for a bit to take part in a shared experience. Community is formed, cultural traditions are traded, lovers meet 😉, and lives are changed.
Surprisingly enough, harvests and road trips have a lot in common. Between long hours spent on the road, catching sunrise on a regular basis, and exploring unfamiliar places - you see a lot and you learn a lot.
The labels for this release were inspired by a road trip we took with two of our best friends back in 2017. Our RV was stocked with all the (bear) bells and whistles, and we clocked 6,000 miles in two weeks with many misadventures along the way.
The 2020 Fenaughty Vineyard Syrah was dreamt up during our stay at Moraine Lake Lodge in Banff National Park. After a bucket list moment canoeing on the turquoise water, we enjoyed an overdue hot shower and fancy dinner. Afterwards we hiked to the top of the Rockpile trail with a bottle of Nichol own-rooted Syrah and watched moonrise over the lake.
The famed Fenaughty vineyard is also own-rooted on volcanic soils with a bedrock of granite at 2860 ft. elevation. It is the perfect pairing for slow cooked meals, late night adventures, and fireside chats. With only one barrel of 100% whole cluster Syrah produced, it is truly special.
A few days later we found ourselves hiking around the edges of Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone, filled with awe. We wondered what it would be like to produce a wine as bright and vivid as that experience.
Our Grand Prismatic label will showcase a different experimental wine each year. The first release is a two barrel blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre from the 2020 vintage. Yellowstone was the first designated National Park and is known for its sulfur springs. This vibrant and experimental wine plays on that theme, as no sulfur was used during its production. Pair with forest bathing, home movie marathons, and game nights.
A mutual sense of adventure and love of the unexplored is likely what led you to us. Thank you for keeping an open heart and finding joy in the discovery. Stay wild.
With love and gratitude,
Bertus, Alli & Margo
